Choosing glass table tops you should pay attention what glass thickness do you need. Obviously thicker glass has a more substantial look and feel but the weight of the glass top becomes a major consideration after a certain size. Thicker glass can become very heavy as the size increases.
As an example, if you simply plan on using the glass as a protective cover on top of another table top, glass that is a quarter-inch thick should be adequate. If the glass is going to serve as the actual tabletop or table surface, it may need to be thicker.

A custom glass table top design means that you can create a piece of furniture that blends effortlessly into any room making glass table tops both fashionable and practical for any home or office environment.

To let the light in, simply place a mirror opposite or next to a window to increase the amount of natural light cast into the room. A mirror will harness any daylight possible (no matter how gloomy the sky is outside) so the bigger the mirror, the brighter space.
Mirrors effectively double up your light sources. If you’re challenged with decorating a cavernous space, place your mirrors near a lamp or window.
Mirrors are a cunning way to deceive the eye. They can be used to enhance something or deflect attention away from it. Awkward spaces, such as rooms with a sloping ceiling or a gap too small to fit a piece of furniture, can be repurposed with a mirror.

Did you know that mirrors are a brilliant way to boost the atmosphere in your entertaining space? Placing a large mirror against a wall can create the illusion that there are more guests at a gathering.

Laminated glass is a high performance glazing product used frequently in both residential and commercial building projects. The demand for laminated glass over traditional float glass panels continues to soar, particularly in commercial projects. As businesses continue to discover the multitude of benefits of laminated glass, we’ve decided to explain why and when you should use laminated glass panels.
Safe, secure performance under impact is a necessityOne of the most attractive features of laminated glass is its durable performance under impact. Such is the thickness of laminated glass that it will not shatter or collapse under normal body impact. Even when broken, it retains its integrity as the interlayer keeps the layers of glass bonded. This prevents the glass from breaking up into large sharp pieces and causing serious injury.

Toughened laminated glass is particularly favoured in skylights, balustrades, roof glazing and curtain walls where glass breakage could otherwise result in falling glass.
You require heightened security protectionLaminated glass panels are revered for their anti-theft and anti-vandal properties. Such is the strength of laminated glass that it can help to block intrusion from burglars and vandals. Laminated glass windows and doors are more difficult for intruders to break. Even in the event that the glass is broken, the burglar or vandal still has to contend with the remaining laminated glass interlayer section.
Laminated glass panels can also be designed to offer bulletproof and bombproof protection. Ballistic glass and blast resistant glass panels can be constructed using multiple or thick layers of laminated glass and interlayer sections. They can offer heightened security protection for businesses in areas where urban crime or security threats are rife.

Noise controlLaminated glass has proven to serve as an excellent barrier to noise. It offers a higher sound reduction index than float glass of equal thickness. This noise reduction is due to the “viscoelastic” properties of the interlayer section of laminated safety glass. It is a particularly popular choice for businesses based in the centre of bustling cities who require noise reduction to provide  a comfortable, productive working environment. Companies located near to train stations and airport also favour laminated glass doors and windows.

You don’t want to deter from the visual aesthetic of your property
Laminated glass panels are glazed in a certain way to avoid the distortion caused by “roller waves” found in tempered and heat-strengthened glass. Laminated glazing ensures that the panels can complement rather deter from the visual aesthetic of your property.

You need design versatility
Laminated glass panels can be manufactured flat or curved. They can be annealed, toughened, spandrel, wired,  patterned or tinted to your requirements enabling excellent design versatility. Laminated glass can also be combined with switchable privacy glass, blackout glass and switchable solar control glass to create a stunning visual solution, meet privacy needs and offer even more design freedom.

Nowadays there are plenty of options for table and table tops as well. A glass table accentuates the surrounding decor shine and makes the carpeting, tile, or hardwood floor pop. Very often homeowners want to protect their tables from damages and are using glass table tops.
At Glass Table Tops NYC we are offering custom cut glass table tops. There are no reasons to worry that the glass won’t fit, as it is custom made to order. Using professional cutting machines, we can provide you with the glass of any shape and edge finish.
For Glass Table Tops we highly recommend to go with tempered (safety) glass. This type of glass is stronger than traditional glass. In the event of breaking, tempered glass crumbles into dull cubes instead of sharp, jagged pieces.
Glass Table Top
Glass table tops can be sparkling or smoky, beveled or seamed, round, or rectangular. Usually, we offer to choose flat polished smooth edges instead of sharp.
If your table is an old piece of driftwood with exquisite colors then you might consider using a low iron content “extra clear” piece of ¼” thick tempered glass, basically, this glass is completely clear and does not have the green tinge that standard glass has.
Glass table top protectors are usually placed straight onto the table or desk but you can also use “bump ons” these are small clear rubber domes with adhesive on one side that stop the glass sliding around.

What is sandblasted glass and how is it different from acid etch glass?
Sandblasted and etched glass both use abrasives which create a frosted appearance on the glass.
Sandblasting usually uses a high-speed machine that blasts down on the glass panel with sand, walnut husks or other materials to achieve its look. (It can also be done by hand!) Sandblast glass etching lets you choose the level of glass opaqueness that best fits your needs and is versatile in many ways when it comes to design.
Acid etched glass also offers a wide variety of options, but the appearance is smoother. Etching glass with acid offers more finishes and various degrees of transparency than standard sandblasted glass.

Sandblasted glass

Pros and cons of sandblasted glass etching and glass acid etching:
As with any product both sandblasted frosted glass and acid frosted glass have their benefits and disadvantages.
  • A pro to sandblasting is that you can are pretty much guaranteed good quality etching and it will be completed within a decent amount of time. Also, designs are readily available and can be more detailed.
  • A con to sandblasting is the glass is more likely to leave fingerprint marks which do require a bit more maintenance when it comes to cleaning.
  • A pro to acid etched glass is that unlike sandblasted glass it is low-maintenance and less likely to leave fingerprint marks.
  • A con to acid etched glass is that it is not readily available due to the fact that the acid used is hazardous and often has to be produced overseas. Acid etching is also limited in custom designs.
